My daughter told me that I am not supposed to go to a psychic...it is against our religion.....
It IS against our religion....
But I had to go.....
I needed to talk to my dad and see what he had to say....
And the funny thing is that I didn't initiate it....
A friend (the psychic) told me that my dad is trying to get in touch with us (we knew he would - he told us he would).....
So, my brother and my sister and my other sister and my mom went.....(and they are more religious than I am!)
Totally against our religion and yet so freaking fulfilling.....
It brought peace and strength and happiness to us......I wish I could explain it all....Nonno was there and so was Gianni and so was Nonni and so many other people (and yet so many weren't there, either)....
And I will go again!
I miss you terribly, daddy and yet I am so happy that you know what is going on down here.......more than I do (apparently!).

Masses
We are Catholic.... We attend Mass every Sunday and believe in saying Masses for the dead.
My dad received over 100 Mass cards from different Perpetual Societies and different groups from so many different people. We thank them immensely. We believe that masses help the dead to get to heaven.
But the masses that will be said at our local churches are just incredible. We have one a week for the first six months of 2012 at my parents church. We had our first mass on Wednesday night from my priest that I work for in a town near us. We have one coming up this weekend at OUR church....then there is a lull, until 2012 and then we begin one a week, every week.
Dad, we believe you are in heaven already, but if you aren't yet, you sure as heck will be very soon!!! :)

Update on Nonni
I haven't talked about hubby's grandmother in awhile.
She is doing very well. 99 years young. She loves watching Dancing with the Stars, but American Idol doesn't do it for her. She loves basketball (watches Uconn men) and of course, her beloved, Yankees. Thank God, baseball season just started. She was getting antsy waiting for her boys in pin stripes!!!
She came to church for the first time this Sunday. It was a long winter for her. Almost every week, she would ask if it was time for her to go back to church. With the winter we had here in CT, it was almost impossible for us to get her down the stairs and into the car. She is always cold....even when its 75 degrees in the house. But she was happy to be back to church. It took two of us to do it, but it can be done, so thats what I'll be doing each Sunday from now on......Thank Goodness.

St. Joseph's Medal
In our Archdiocese, each parish chooses a member of the church to receive the St. Joseph Medal of Honor. This is done once a year and the person (or a couple) chosen has helped the church in countless ways, selflessly and continually, sometimes anonymously.
This year from our parish, my dad was chosen for the honor. We all (21 of us) traveled to Hartford this past Sunday, to the Cathedral of St. Joseph. I had never been to the Cathedral before - wow, it was beautiful. The stained glass windows were just incredible. It is a massive, gorgeous structure!
There were approximately 200 recipients of the award and they all sat together. There were about 150 priests from many of the parishes in solemn procession to start and end the ceremony. The Archbishop conferred the award to all the men and women who received it. It was a beautiful service with beautiful music. The Cathedral was filled to capacity, standing room only. We were lucky to get to sit in a side altar with a great view and were able to watch my dad accept the award.
My dad has been a cook for both the church and the school dinners for so many years, I don't even remember when he didn't cook. He has belonged to this parish for almost 50 years (with a two year hiatus, when we moved two towns away). He has done bingos and summer festivals and gardening and cleaning out the rectory and the list goes on and on.
We are all very proud of you, Dad!!!

CCD Today
Lent starts this week. I have to prepare the kids in my CCD class for that! It is sad, but they are in fourth grade and some of them don't realize that Lent comes before Easter. Then, we need to discuss the subject of prayer...how to pray and types of prayer.
Going to throw in a little of St. Joseph's Day too (March 19th). Most Italians know what they are talking about when it comes to FAITH, FAMILY, FATHERS and FOOD!

Lessons and Carols
Yesterday afternoon, I attended my brother's church where his three daughters are in the children's choir. They had a program called Lessons and Carols. Nine Lessons (Bible readings) and Christmas carols sung by both the choir alone and then some with audience participation. Of course, my nieces were wondeful....and my sister-in-law Kelly did one of the readings. Some of the carols, I knew and some I had never heard of before, but were beautiful none the less. There was both an Adult choir and a Children's choir and they sang together and then alone for different carols.
It was a very moving experience. The Readings started with Genesis and ended with the Gospel of John (Kelly read from the Book of Micah) and it was both emotional and uplifting. I like to do at least one thing during Advent that keeps me remembering that Jesus is the Reason for the Season.
My sister in law Debbie and I wanted to clap after every carol, it was just so beautiful, but they stated at the beginning that it was a solemn ceremony and we couldn't clap :( - I just wanted to burst into applause!!!!!
Anyway, I had never heard of Lessons and Carols before....If anyone has the opportunity to attend this moving occasion at any church, please do so, you will be glad you did.

A new church
As I had said in an earlier post, I needed to find another church. Mentally, I cannot continue to attend my church. The priest most unfortunately, has an alcohol issue and I had to deal with alcoholism for way too many years, and I refuse to have to deal with it when I attend mass too.
I had to ask a few questions to the parish secretary at the new church that I wanted to attend (to make sure that I wasn't jumping from one fire to the flame). The new parish priest does not have this issue. Then I had to call my first parish and see if it is still possible to continue to teach catechism at the church (I had already committed for the upcoming school year). I know the kids and I know their families and I really want to continue to teach. And I found out that I CAN continue to teach there.
I am not a priest basher, I have worked for priests for many years (at other parishes). But they are human too, and in their humanness, they have faults. I just wish the fault wasn't in MY parish priest. The hardest part has been to tell Nonni (who has attended my church for probably 70 years) that I (we) won't be going there any longer. She wasn't too happy and I don't blame her. I told her we can go on special occasions. I feel awful about it, truly heartbroken in so many ways. I did not make this decision lightly. I prayed on it for many months. I have talked to the trustee, the parish workers and other priests about this. The other priests are working with this priest and his disease. I hope they can help him.
I have made the leap. I am now attending the church of my grandparents. I went with them to this church many, many, many times as a child. It's beautiful inside and out and bright and vibrant and I know I can be happy there.

My lofty goals - completed.
My weekend was busy and hectic - but I got everything accomplished - I don't think our refrigerator has every been so full!!! The kids are ecstatic! I cooked and baked and did everything I set out to do here. The Pear/Banana/Raspberry muffin tops were the best!!! Everyone raved about them. I will post that recipe soon.
We have food!!! Leftover night was last night and we ate most of it. The only thing I have left is some kale from my CSA and a head of cabbage - the cabbage is being made into stuffed cabbage this week and the kale.....I'm not sure....But maybe I'll borrow a blender and try this. I'm not sure how I will like it though. But I always try everything once......
Anyway, I even read this weekend - finished one book and am half way through another book. I would like to thank my niece for the recommendation....Thank you, Kailee Lyn.

Food: Lasagna, Ziti, Meatballs, Suffrito, Cavatelli and Broccoli, Clam Chowder and Porchetta (these are the items in our booth) Then there is Periogi, Empanadas, Fried Dough Pizza, Italian Pastries, Italian Ice, Burgers, Fries, Hot dogs, Sausages, Fried Clams, Watermelon, Beer, wine and soda and so much more in the other booths....I think Kielbasa and saurerkraut, too!

This week
I have beautiful pictures of my son's graduation party......and I can not figure out how to upload them here!! My son was going to help me, but he has been too busy. I'll try for this weekend.
I taught Zumba four times this week (and you wonder why I don't blog too often) :)
Family dinner Wednesday night was huge - maybe too huge. Just too much, sometimes. I think there were 32 people.
I went to Mass tonight - It was a Healing Mass - we call it the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. The very ill or sick or old come to church and are given a mass and blessing and so much more. It was just beautiful. I should have pictures of this too soon. I felt the Holy Spirit. I have only felt God like that once before. It was powerful. Beyond powerful. It made me cry. My dad and about 15 others were anointed. I wish I had the words to sum it all up, but words can't descibe it.

Easter
I wish you all the happiest and holiest of Easter seasons. This is my favorite week of church, mass, family, friends and life. Holy Thursday mass, Good Friday service at 3:00 pm, Sunrise Service at a local farm at 6:30 am on Easter Sunday and then Easter Mass at 10:00 Sunday morning........God is good.
I enjoy every moment....I hope you do too!

I've been busy....This full time life is kicking my butt (to be blunt!)....
I love my life, but can't wait for my mini-vacation at the end of April......I need Naples, Florida.
The top of the chimney is cracked and water has been leaking down the walls of the fireplace into the fireplace and down into the basement...It is crazy, but the mason is coming today. I hope he can fix it. We have been inserting cardboard and towels into the fireplace to stop the flow and it is working. However, I think some damage has already been done. My husband wrapped a tarp around the top of the chimney yesterday. We have been inundated with rain for days (weeks???).
We had the electrician install a new light in the kitchen! My kitchen is long and one side had no light near the stove.....What a difference! It's like a brand new kitchen. I'm very happy (little things make me happy)!
The baby chicks came in last Thursday - six black sex-linked hens. They are so adorable and they are all doing wonderful, under my dad's watchful eye. He will get three and I will get three.
I signed up for my CSA for the summer. I'm going with a different farm this year and am looking forward to the weekly adventure of planning my meals around my box!!!!!
Only one more CCD Class (none in April......very strange) but the last one is in May.
I am writing up the invitations for my son's college graduation party this week. We are having it a a Beach Pavilion (where we had my other son's high school graduation). It worked out great, so here's hoping for the same result!!!
Lots of church this week. I'm taking Nonni to Holy Thursday mass, Good Friday service at 3:00 and then Easter Morning, we will put on our bonnets and head to a beautiful mass. I'm also checking with my sister to see if she is attending sunrise services this year....She has gone for the past two years and it has been awe-inspiring and I really want to go. I don't care if I have to wake up at 4:30 in the morning!(??)
The hens are laying beautifully - I get three eggs a day. This weekend, I will turn over the garden and plant the peas, that should have been planted already. I just haven't had time.
My middle son got a job for the summer - Praise the Lord! So he will be working part time and has his internship at Quinnipiac University part time to make a full time summer........
PS - can't wait for chocolate on Easter morning.........................

Wedding
I attended my girlfriend Julia's wedding. We had a wonderful time. The food was great, the band was great, the table was great - All my C & T friends.....

Thanksgiving
It was a wonderful day, plenty of food, drink and family and friends.
I was exhausted....Race first thing in the morning - 5K and I did 28:21 - not my best, but not bad...
Elizabeth's game - Notre Dame won! And then dinner with 30 people and then cards for the night. Great, great time.....
I am thankful for all the wonderful family that I have.

Confirmation
I didn't write a lot this week. It was a busy time. My daughter received Confirmation on Wednesday....very exciting for all of us. My sister is her sponsor and I took 1/2 of vacation to get myself organized. We actually had cake and coffee for her on Tuesday because I knew it was going to be a busy week. and we were all together for Tuesday night dinner.
